Joanna Beresford

Joanna Beresford

Author biography

I am studying a Master of Research in Creative Arts. My inspiration for writing comes from peeling back the veneer people present to the rest of society in their quest to belong. Interacting with teenagers and their families every day presents a myriad of situations that deserve closer examination. I love writing stories that people can relate to; either because they have had a similar experience, or because they are interested in how others have coped in unusual situations. Various short stories of mine have been published in magazines and an anthology, received 2nd Prize in the 2017 Stringybark Stories ‘Dog Eat Dog’ Award (Australia), and shortlisted in the 2017 Queensland Writers’ Centre Flash Fiction Prize.

My novels include The Last Link, a narrative non-fiction title that details the first attempt to fly across the Tasman Sea from Australia to New Zealand in 1928, and Every Year I Am Here, a work of historical fiction set in Brisbane Australia, 1891.
