Author Michelle Lynn

Biography

Michelle Lynn grew up wanting to live in the worlds of the fantasy books she was reading. Stories were a part of her life from a very young age, but she never once considered writing her own. Books were an escape for her as she lived with an episodic illness that made life difficult at times. Still, she had different dreams. It wasn’t until after college when her illness became disabling that writing even came on her radar, but it came in a big way. Her first book was written while she was bed-ridden for six months. It helped her in a way she never could have imagined and now she couldn’t stop if she tried. Her dreams shifted and her characters sprung to life. In the years since, she has released many books spanning multiple genres – Young Adult, romance, and fantasy. Her illness is still hanging around, but it doesn’t stop her from doing what she loves.

At different times in her life, Michelle has been different things. A teenager who loves books. A college student studying business and economics who spent every summer diving for months in the Caribbean. A disabled young adult who just needed something to distract her minds. And now a writer who loves what she does, loves her family, and still – as always – loves books.

Michelle is a firm believer in the lessons books can teach us. If we don’t come away from reading with some change in ourselves, then it wasn’t worth our time. The lessons don’t have to be obvious or even big. Her very favorite authors are Robin Hobb and Diana Gabaldon, but she reads many. She doesn’t have a taste for the classics, preferring the faster pace of contemporary genre fictions. But she always says it doesn’t matter what you read, just that you do. Reading opens doors in our minds, creating better thinkers, creative doers, and an understanding of others.

There are many things that inspire her in her life and she likes to think inspiration can be found just about anywhere. Her niece and nephew are the biggest influencers in her life. Kids add something that nothing else can. She also loves having her cats and bird around. Her family – two sisters, two brothers-in-law, parents, and niece and nephew – are the most important part of her life.

She’s learned a lot in the past few years about what is truly important and what is just a waste of space in our minds. She knows she wouldn’t be the same person she is today without having to deal with her disability. It keeps her from doing many things and living normally, but normal is overrated. All she needs is her family, her books, and her hockey team to keep her smiling.

As Marilyn Monroe once said, “Life is a beautiful thing and there’s so much to smile about.”
